JOB DESCRIPTION

The Interactive Media and Game Development (IMGD) program is hiring a Professor of Practice (PoP) in Writing and Narrative Design for Interactive Media and Game Development to begin August 2020. The program seeks applicants that are professional writers with industry experience and a passion for advancing the design and development of games and interactive media through teaching, research, and innovation.

The PoP will teach existing courses in writing and narrative design, including Writing Characters for Interactive Media & Games and Writing Narrative for Interactive Media & Games, and will develop new courses and new curricular initiatives in topics related to their expertise. The PoP will also advise undergraduate students in their senior-year projects and graduate students in their projects and theses. The position includes opportunities to collaborate with faculty on fundraising for supporting creative efforts.

Candidates must have 10+ years of industry experience as a writer, experience designer, narrative designer, or related role, with significant work on at least five released titles, one or more as a lead writer/designer. Teaching experience or experience mentoring student interns preferred. An advanced degree is not required.

IMGD is a multidisciplinary program with faculty from the departments of Computer Science, Humanities and Arts, Social Science and Policy Studies, and Business. WPI offers a BS in technical development, a BA in artistic development and design with an option for a concentration in writing, and an MS in interactive media and game development and design. The project-based STEM curriculum requires extensive writing in junior- and senior-year projects, which are often tied to the university's nationally-known global studies program.

Founded in 1865, WPI is one of the nation's first technological universities. A highly selective private university located within an hour of Boston, WPI is consistently ranked among the top 70 research institutions by US News & World Report. The university is home to an innovative and intensive project-based curriculum that empowers students with the knowledge and skills to address real-world problems around the globe. WPI employees have competitive and comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, long-term care, retirement, tuition assistance, flexible spending accounts, good work-life balance, and much more.

Applicants should submit:
