The School of Graduate & Continuing Studies at Alfred University is delighted to announce a search for Director of Field Experiences for our New York City-based programs in school and mental health counseling, beginning April 2022.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Field Experiences will assist the Dean in oversight of field experiences of the Alfred University graduate school counseling and mental health counseling program. This includes required practicum and internship experiences for master's degree and advanced certificate students. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting students in identifying appropriate practicum and internship placements.
  • Developing new school counseling and mental health counseling practicum and internship sites that will meet program training needs.
  • Conducting visits of new mental health internship sites to determine compliance with State Education regulations (approximately 40 per year).
  • Conducting required visits of school counseling practicum sites (150 per year).
  • Tracking internship and practicum hours.
  • Overseeing school counseling field experiences regarding compliance with certification requirements.
  • Overseeing mental health counseling field experiences regarding compliance with licensing regulations.
  • Making regular phone and email contacts with field supervisors.
  • Conducting orientation programming for field experiences and exit programming for graduates.
  • Certifying completion of field experiences as part of the degree conferral process.
  • Teaching mental health counseling field experience seminars.
This is a full-time position that is necessary to provide appropriate ongoing support of existing programs. The position will be based in Brooklyn.

REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of a master's degree in mental health counseling, school counseling, or the equivalent, and a current active New York State license as a mental health professional, and certificate in school counseling. Appropriate mental health licenses include LMHC, LCSW, LCSW-R, and Licensed Psychologist. However, school counseling certification is required. Knowledge of the mental health counseling field and at least 5 years of experience as a school counselor plus some mental health experience in agency or private practice settings required. The successful applicant must be familiar with Microsoft Office and capable of learning and managing specialty software used for field experience documentation and NYS certification and licensing agencies. Must be comfortable with extensive online interactions with students, faculty, administrative offices, and other stakeholders. Excellent trouble shooting and conflict resolutions skills, as well as the capacity to work independently and be self-directed are essential to this position. This is a 12- month position.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

AUNY is the external program division of Alfred University's School of Graduate & Continuing Studies (SGCS). Currently, AUNY enrolls approximately 450 students in four graduate programs located in Brooklyn, Westchester County, and Oceanside, Long Island, the largest of which are master's programs in school counseling and mental health counseling, and an advance certificate bridge program in mental health counseling. An additional 40 students are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate education programs located in Corning, New York. The third division of SGCS is the Campus Graduate Programs, which includes programs in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, School Psychology, College Student Development and Education.
