School of Music Overview:

The UCO School of Music has a current faculty of over 35 full-time (of which 26 are tenured or tenure-track positions) and approximately 35 part-time faculty, combined with a full-time professional staff of 8. There are approximately 350 students enrolled in degree programs that include the BA, BM, BME, and MM, within the framework of six divisions: Jazz Studies, Musical Theatre, Piano, Strings (Orchestras), Vocal Arts (Choirs and Opera), and Winds/Percussion (Bands). The University of Central Oklahoma and all of our curricular offerings are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Position Overview

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Job Description:

• The position requires a full-time teaching load as specified by university policy.
• Teach courses which could include: Musical Theatre 1 through Musical Theatre 8; Musical Theatre Directing I & II; Musical Theatre Performance Workshop-as assigned. Musical Theatre Dance Styles I-IV.
• Direct and/or choreograph Mainstage Musicals and Revues.
• Recruit and advise Musical Theatre majors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university experience is expected. An earned Master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Extensive performance and teaching experience in the field of musical theatre.
• Ability to direct stage productions at a professional level.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and graduate students.
• Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to choreograph stage productions at a professional level.

Required Education and Experience:

• A master’s degree in Musical Theatre, or another applicable musical theatre-related area. Candidates with only a bachelor’s degree in a Musical Theatre with extensive professional performing and directing experience may be considered.
• Professional musical theatre performance & directing experience.
• College teaching experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• 5 years of college teaching experience.
• A terminal degree in Musical Theatre, or another applicable musical theatre-related area.

Physical Demands:

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
