Assistant Professor of Sociology, Full time Tenure Track

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. Faculty members are responsible for developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with the philosophy and framework of the program and MassBay Community College. The faculty member is responsible for maintaining expertise in the discipline.
MassBay seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative educator to teach first- and second-year Sociology courses, including Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of the Family, Social Problems, Race and Ethnic Relations, and other Sociology electives at our campuses. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student body and will take an active role in the Humanities and Social Sciences Division and teach a full-time (approximately 15 credit hours per semester) schedule of Sociology courses. This is a full-time, tenure track position.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Teach full time at the Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and/or Ashland campuses, and online, as assigned;
  • Prepare course syllabi and develop curricula to meet course and program requirements and student learning outcomes;
  • Serve as academic advisor to students;
  • Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources;
  • Serve on College committees as elected or appointed;
  • Attend Program, Department, Division, and Committee meetings;
  • Participate in assessment of course and program learning outcomes;
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in the discipline and in the classroom;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Engage in conversations with colleagues and students regarding best practices within the discipline or programmatic related to equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned Master’s Degree in Sociology from an accredited college or university;
  • Two or more years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience teaching Sociology courses;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with under served students;
  • A Doctorate degree;
  • Experience in sociological fieldwork and/or applied sociology;
  • Prior experience teaching online courses;
  • Community College teaching experience strongly preferred;
  • Effective use of materials and assignments that develop the writing and critical thinking skills of students and integrate the cultural wealth each student brings to the classroom.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $48,111- $63,883, in accordance with one's education and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
