Summary
The Director of Student Mental Health will serve as the lead mental health professional for California Baptist University and will oversee the coordination of biblical, Christian, and ethical campus-wide mental-health initiatives that demonstrate best practices in the profession including but not limited to assessment of and recommendations pertaining to students in mental health crisis; the development, implementation, and promotion of mental healthcare resources; coordination of strategies to ensure positive mental well-being among students; collaboration with departments, schools, and colleges within the University for appropriate student care; communication of current mental health trends; and training of student leaders, faculty, and staff to identify mental health issues and to provide appropriate care and assistance to students by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Serve as in-house evaluator to assess and diagnose students in mental health crisis to advise CBU administration.
2. Advise CBU administration of possible treatment plans for students in crisis based on diagnoses and make recommendations for student mental healthcare.
3. Conduct regular psychological research to ensure current knowledge of mental health issues as well as mental healthcare trends, especially among college students and universities, and to recommend and implement best practices for effective student mental healthcare according to California law and code of ethics.
4. Recommend, develop, and implement initiatives, strategies, processes, and structures based on psychological research to advance positive mental health among all student populations.
5. Recommend, develop, and implement strategies, processes, and protocols based on evidence-based practice to provide multi-department, cross-division, and collaborative care in times of crisis.
6. Collaborate closely with other Student Services departments in various processes and protocols that address student issues and needs.
7. Partner and collaborate with the CBU Counseling Center ( CBUCC ) to provide appropriate counseling for students.
8. Recommend, manage, and promote self-service mental-health resources for student use.
9. Develop and schedule crisis and mental well-being training based on psychological research as well as current trends in student mental health care for student leaders, faculty, and staff at strategic times of the year, especially (but not limited to) Safety Services, the CBUCC staff, Residence Life, Spiritual Life, etc.
10. Develop and manage mental health protocols for times of crisis.
11. Lead the Student Care/Assessment/Intervention Team.
12. Represent mental health strategies and protocols to prospective students and parents.
13. Partner, collaborate, and communicate broadly across campus with departments, schools, and colleges to further strategies and partnerships that advance mental well-being among students.
14. Plan and execute awareness campaigns for the campus community in collaboration with the CBUCC and other pertinent offices. Supervisory Responsibilities
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.   • Current knowledge of California state law regarding practice of psychology.
  • Current licensure and certifications (or ability to establish such) with the California Board of Psychology.
  • Extensive and broad clinical experience.
  • Accomplished communication skills for large and small gatherings
  • Big-picture, mental-health leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices to promote positive mental health and well-being among college students.
  • Experience in higher education student services and development preferred.
  • Knowledge of current mental health issues and trends among college students.
  • Ability to relate with ease to various groups including executive leadership, faculty, staff, and students.
  • After hours availability required
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • A thorough knowledge of: Business English and arithmetic; general office methods, procedures and practices.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Strong organizational skills and detailed oriented.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent telephone courtesy knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge of standard budgeting and expenditure control procedures and documentation.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
Education and/or Experience
Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D, or equivalent degree). Current licensure as a psychologist with 5-7 years clinical practice as a licensed psychologist in California. Current licensure and certifications (or ability to establish such) with the California Board of Psychology.
