POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, School of Pharmacy is responsible for the overall development, maintenance, and management of academic operations, curricular delivery and quality at the assigned campus. This position is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment of academic and professional excellence for students and faculty and a collaborative working environment with educational team members. The incumbent must assure that the South University philosophy: Quality services to students; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Assure availability of properly credentialed faculty to meet curriculum delivery requirements.
  • Supervise all academic and operational elements and relevant administrators of the School to ensure consistent and efficient continuity of the program.
  • Supervise, mentor and help in the development of the SOP Department Chairs
  • Assure that all direct reports are being appropriately supervised, developed and evaluated.
  • Monitor systems, policies, and procedures in order to ensure consistent delivery of all didactic, experiential and residency programs
  • Assist in the development and effective implementation of the academic schedule.
  • Manage the academic scheduling process and faculty allocation of effort, maximizing efficiencies while maintaining student educational outcomes and faculty professional growth.
  • Contribute/recommend/implement assigned elements of the South University and School of Pharmacy Assessment and Strategic Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all University and School policies and procedures, including institutional policies and academic policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to help ensure students' rights and responsibilities, and the Associate Dean for Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness to support accreditation activities as needed.
  • Contribute to and implement appropriate student persistence initiatives.
  • Actively participate in Institutional Effectiveness Planning and Quality Enhancement Program (QEP).
  • Assist the Dean in the preparation and implementation of the School budget as needed.
  • In partnership with the Dean and Campus President, coordinate general compliance of the campus's educational practices with national, state and regional regulations, ensure the appropriate accrediting criteria and requirements are maintained.
  • Serve as a member of the school Executive Committee.
  • Serve as a member of University and School Committees as assigned by the Dean of the School.
  • Represent the University, School and/or Dean at local, regional or national events or conferences as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 5 years of academic experience with academic operations leadership experience in a university setting preferred.
  • Terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution in either higher education leadership or an area related to the University's curriculum.
  • Minimum 10 years teaching experience in a university environment.
  • Other requirements specific to the discipline of training.
  • Support the Dean with required data and statistics for annual reports for the School.
  • Provide the Dean with required data to construct the annual budget for the School.
  • Provide ad hoc reports to campus, central office, and executive staff as requested.
  • Proficient with the use of standard office applications on personal computers.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academic and campus leaders, corporate leaders, and public groups.
  • Ability to travel out of the local area occasionally on an overnight basis as required to participate in a variety of conferences and meetings.
