A.T. Still University (ATSU) of seeking a non-exempt Billing Specialist on the Kirksville, Missouri campus. The position reports to the Executive Director of Practice Management. The Billing Specialist will assist clinic administration in the daily responsibilities of the billing department and will oversee the task of sending invoices to clients and monitor outstanding balances to ensure each account is paid on time and in full.
Major Job Duties
- Pick up mail at post office box and take cash deposit to the bank daily. Balance daily (nothing is deposited until balanced)
- Pick up mail in mailroom
- Deposit reconciliations and journal posting including remote check scanning services. Copy and keep in orderly fashion all items related to deposit (checks, bill stubs, receipts, correspondence)
- Cash box management in coordination with University Finance and the Clinic Banking process to maintain adequate change and quality control
- Communication with RCM team for all documentation required for payment posting activities
- Provide billing education and training to medical staff
- Respond in a timely manner to patients and insurance companies as well as to any occupational or student health billing concerns
- Approval of ERAs
- Claims denial analysis, appeals and reconsiderations
- Communicate with Clinic administration of ongoing concerns or trends
- Participate in GRS weekly conference calls
- Monitor unsigned and unbilled charges as well as blank encounters
- Weekly ERA reconciliations with University accounts
- Unapplied allocation reports
- Charge posting
- Refund analysis
- Review financial trends
- Balance financials
- Support administrative reporting
- Research AR trends
- Statement file review and submission
- Work occupational and student health accounts
- Collection review
- Timely filing analysis on accounts greater than 365 days
- End of year reporting
- Examine fee schedules
- Other duties as assigned
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Knowledge of filing claims with insurance companies and insurance crossovers
- Knowledge of coding
- Knowledge of computer billing
- Electronic claims experience and accounts receivables
- Basic math, bookkeeping, and accounting skills with an understanding of revenue cycle management
- Effective computer skills to input for bookkeeping and account management software
- Ability to be discreet and maintain the security of patient or customer information
- Ability to communicate with residents and mentor charge submissions and compliance
- Adherence to University and EHR workflows to support industry and institutional best practices
- Time management abilities
- Ability to work well with a large group of people
- Trustworthy (working with large sums of money)
