Job Description:

The Career Services Career Consultant plays a critical role in directly providing career-related student support services and contributes significantly to the department’s student success initiatives. This position is one of only two career consultants who carry out the vast majority of the department’s student 1:1 appointments and classroom presentations. This career consultant position is assigned a liaison role with the Colleges of Health and Human Services, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Nursing, and Pharmacy and conducts 1:1 student appointments and classroom presentations for undergrad, graduate students and alumni. Additional responsibilities include contributing significant content and ideas for the Career Services social media accounts as well as the Career Services website and participates in the department’s signature and special events throughout the year.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:
• Bachelor's degree required with minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Master's degree preferred in student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or related area with minimum 1 year of relevant experience
• Previous experience in student advising, career counseling, teaching or human resources; prefer some experience in a higher education environment
• Demonstrated skills in workshop and presentation development and delivery
• Understanding of career development process/theory
Communication and other skills:
• Active listener with excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
• Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments
• Capacity to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for diversity
• Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered
