Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Director of Annual Giving directs and Elmhurst University’s annual giving program. The Director will oversee a leadership giving program by increasing engagement and the probability that Elmhurst University becomes a philanthropic priority for alumni, parents, and friends of the institution. The position will focus on giving through various channels, using a variety of creative and/or donor-centric solicitation methods, such as direct mail, online giving, student callers, peer-to-peer fundraising, social media, and others. This position supports the efforts of Elmhurst 150: The Campaign for Elmhurst University.

Essential Functions
  • Design and implement Annual Giving initiatives whose purpose is to build a long-term base of support for the University.
  • Utilize myriad channels to engage, acquire, renew, retain, or upgrade annual donors.
  • Focus on growing a base of support, boosting donor retention rates and alumni giving participation percentage.
  • Direct the University’s efforts for initiatives focused on broad giving participation, such as Giving Day and Giving Tuesday.
  • Oversee the University’s phonathon student callers and giving/solicitation initiatives related to direct mail, email, social media, text, peer-to-peer, and other channels.
  • Oversee content related to the donor experience on the University’s giving webpages.
  • Contribute to the development and analysis of key metrics, dashboards, and reports to inform the success of an Annual Giving program.
  • Leverage key relationships within the Office of Institutional Advancement, as well as across the University, to contribute to the success of the Annual Giving program.
  • Grow the Elmhurst University President’s Circle program, both in membership size and sophistication.
Other Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • A significant number of years of relevant experience in development/advancement work.
  • A track record of success in Annual Giving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel, when required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage student workers.

  • Belief in and the ability to represent the Elmhurst University mission and core values.
  • A strong work ethic with an ability to work alone and within a larger team.
  • Ability to collaborate within and across campus departments.
  • Goal-oriented, results-focused.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and familiarity with appropriate fundraising tools.
  • Knowledge of computerized systems of donor recordkeeping and data-tracking of prospects and donors, such as Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
