Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Center for Urban Education, the Program Manager will be responsible for managing and ensuring the operational success of the Center for Urban Education ( CUE ), Metropolitan State University of Denver ( MSU Denver) projects and programs, including project implementation, financial management, data collection, and quality control. The Program Manager will oversee student employment, fundraising coordination, and other program activities, as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities

Leadership (10%):
• Work closely with the CUE Director to establish program goals, assess and refine programs and projects
• Promote and sustain new and existing relationships with district, school and community leaders and representatives to ensure effective partnership activities and opportunities
• Promote and sustain new and existing relationships with MSU Denver administrators, faculty and staff to ensure effective partnership activities and opportunities
• Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among internal and external partners, program and project areas, including new projects and programs
Program Design and Development (15%):
• Conceptualize events and learning opportunities, which align with state academic standards and grants and programmatic goals.
• Collaborate with university faculty, service providers and staff to develop enrichment curriculum and activities, which maximize resources and align with goals.
• Develop customized campus tours and field trip activity guides to stimulate student engagement at events.
Program Budget Management (15%):
• In partnership with CUE staff, create budgets that reflect financial support needed to effectively implement CUE program and projects
• Complete and process documentation to secure internal and external access to resources and fulfill payment and billing procedures including: independent contracts, special purchase orders, purchase orders, and corporate card billing.
• Run regular monthly budget reports to ensure on track for grant spending
• Identify, develop and implement strategies to effectively leverage and align multiple funding streams to maximize and support program and project effectiveness
• Identify materials needed to support instruction and events, purchase and manage supplies and inventories to maximize resources.
Student Employment Management and Development (25%):
• Recruit, hire, manage compensation, and oversee training and orientation, and maintenance of personnel files of student employees
• Develop and implement a system to evaluate the skill, experience, and professional development needs of student employees
• Facilitate engaging and purposeful meetings and professional development learning experiences
Grant Compliance and Management (15%):
• Assist the CUE director to implement all phases of grant management from notice of award to final report. In collaboration with CUE director and MSU Denver accounting office, analyze grant budgets, records and reports to ensure that grant is in compliance with applicable rules, regulations and standards
• Ensure that data collection is accurate and submitted in a timely fashion to funders
• Ensure that grant documentation and record keeping systems are adequate for successful monitoring visits, site visits, and audits
• Establish and maintain contact with and serve as liaison with program officers and other funding officials
Event Management (10%):
• In partnership with CUE staff, design and develop engaging off-campus and on-campus event activities for program participants
• Provide event management support for off-campus cultural programs
Recruitment, Outreach and Marketing (5%):
• Work in partnership with CUE staff on a recruitment and outreach strategy to increase out of school program participants.
• Create and schedule recruitment and outreach events in partnership with the university and K-12 school initiatives.
• Make updates to CUE website
Fundraising Coordination and Management (5%):
• Advise and assist CUE Director in setting goals and planning and executing the prospecting program for fundraising on projects related to urban education
• Develop supportive and productive relationships with all MSU Denver Office of Sponsored and Research Programs ( OSRP ) and Development staff to assure the development of relationships with foundation prospects and donors that will optimize their philanthropy to MSU Denver and the CUE
• Conduct research for prospects and analyze potential Requests for Proposals ( RFP ) to determine appropriateness to CUE mission and purpose
• Coordinate conceptual design meetings for proposal development
• Assist with development and analysis of logic models and research in preparation for grant proposal writing
• Assist with proposal writing and development, including narrative, budget and appended documents
• Work with CUE staff and MSU Denver staff to support grant management

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, human services, social work or related field.
• Experience developing and implementing complex projects and programs
• Experience working under a grant funded program
• Experience collecting and analyzing data
• Experience writing reports and maintaining documentation
• Experience conducting program evaluation and assessment
• Event management experience
• Experience working with under-resourced student populations and first generation to college students

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensure in Secondary Education
• Experience working in higher education
• Content knowledge of K-12 and or postsecondary issues
• Budget management experience
• Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with information technology staff to develop and implement program evaluation systems
• Experience supervising staff

Work Hours

Monday – Friday from 9:00 – 6:00 pm; occasional weekend and evening activities as scheduled.
