About the Position

The Program Manager coordinates the efforts to advance a clear and substantive commitment to diversity, international education, and multicultural perspectives at Lewis & Clark College by developing programs and services designed to support the recruitment, transition, and persistence of historically underrepresented students (Black, Indigenous, students of color, first-generation college students, LGBTQ+, low-income, etc.). The Program Manager is responsible for managing programs of the Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement Office and its programs.

Primary responsibilities include: programming campus-wide events on topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; enhancing student leadership development and multicultural student engagement; and working collaboratively with campus constituents to foster an inclusive campus climate.

What You'll Do
  • Supports the daily operations of the Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement (IME) and the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC). Evaluate the day-to-day activities and provide direction when needed.

  • Oversee the Great Expectations Mentorship program, Heritage Month Planning for Hispanic, Native, Black and Asian, Desi, Pacific Islander, Annual IME Banquet, and Men of Color Collective.

  • Hire, train and supervise student peer educators and provide direct support to their projects and programs (Great Expectations Mentorship program, Heritage Month Planning and IME’s Annual Banquet).

  • Contribute to building a collaborative student leadership team consisting of graduate and undergraduate students to assist within the office’s programs and services. This includes training and mentoring student mentors and staff.

  • Supports all administrative needs of IME, including but not limited to: website and social media management, purchasing supplies for office and programs, report writing efforts, catering orders.

  • Create and analyze program assessments and data analytics.

  • Implement strategies around retention efforts of our historically underrepresented student population.

  • Develop and implement the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) strategic plan.

  • Collaborate with other campus offices and departments to implement signature events including but not limited to Trans Day of Remembrance, National Coming Out Day, LGBTQ+ Social, First Generation Celebration.

  • Provide direct support and programming to support the transition of historically represented students. Develop retention strategies for continuing students. Serve as a mentor, resource, and advisor to students, particularly underrepresented students in need of support.

  • Provide leadership development opportunities and advising to student leaders in student unions/affinity clubs and organizations.

  • Coordinate training and education efforts designed to increase knowledge and engagement within the student body.

  • Identify and connect underrepresented students to on- and off-campus leadership opportunities (campus jobs, clubs and partner closely with campus departments and constituents such as Alumni & Parent Programs, Athletics, Admissions, and New Student Orientation to enhance recruitment and retention efforts of historically underrepresented student organizations, service, scholarship and fellowships, research, etc.).

  • In partnership with the Director, take part in campus committees on behalf of Student Life and the Office of Inclusion & Multicultural Engagement.

  • Act on behalf of the Director, when the Director is not available in regard to establishing priorities, overseeing the department and division needs

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications/Experiences
  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least one year of experience with social justice, diversity, and inclusion work

  • Demonstrated 1-2 years of experience working with students at the college level

  • Proficiency in social media, website navigation, and online research

  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and serve as a mentor, advisor, and resource to students

  • Exemplary level of attention to detail

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; organizational skills; and diplomacy

  • Basic computer skills (email, word processing, excel, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications/Experiences
  • Masters Degree in Student Affairs Administration or related field

  • Demonstrated 2-3 years of experience working with social justice, diversity, and inclusion work

  • 1-2 years of project/event management skills

  • Experience at an academic liberal arts community

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working in a variety of student affairs departments on a higher education campus

  • Demonstrated experience in leading the design, planning, and implementation of major programs and initiatives related to multiculturalism and diversity

  • Experience in crisis management

  • Experience using Google products including Google Drive, Gmail, Workspace, Documents, Sheets, Forms.

Work Schedule
  • Full-time, 37.5 hours/week
  • Includes occasional work on weekends/evenings

Pay Rate
  • $45,000 - $50,000 annually
  • Commensurate with experience
Physical Requirements
  • The job works primarily at a desk or is otherwise involved in activities requiring little lifting, climbing or working in tiring positions.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, grasping/gripping, pinching/squeezing, reaching, push/pulling, repetitive hand movements (e.g., typing), seeing, talking, listening.
