The purpose of this position is to:
- to manage and provide day-to-day administrative oversight of the Clinical and Translational Research Laboratory, a research and service laboratory of the Massey Cancer Center.
- be responsible for providing support to clinical investigators for the initiation new research projects.
- to supply services and expertise to clinical and translational research personnel to perform various procedures included in specific clinical studies.
- to exercise broad-based administrative responsibility for all laboratory functions and personnel to fulfill the mission of the Massey Cancer Center.
- Applies knowledge of the principles and methods of laboratory administration and management.
- Applies knowledge of the theory and application of lab methods in molecular biology. Ability to plan, lead and evaluate the work of professional staff.
- Frequent contacts with regulatory boards or governmental entities regarding standards, quality assurance, and lab procedures.
- Frequent contact with internal departments regarding administrative matters and with vendors concerning equipment and supplies.
- Frequent contacts with researchers and staff to provide information, consultation or direction concerning custom projects.
- Plans, manages and evaluates the work of professional staff; develops goals, objectives and timetables; develops and monitors budgets; determines and implements technical methodologies, ensures that quality control standards and safety procedures are in compliance with government regulations and laws.
- May teach/and or serve as technical expert. Requires strong team work qualities and motivation to serve with high quality service
- Four-year college degree (minimum) in life sciences field (biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, etc.). Post baccalaureate degree is preferred.
- Five years' research laboratory experience – in clinical field is preferable.
- Demonstrated experience in, and understanding of, the principles and methods of laboratory administration and management.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
