Job Summary
The director of communications and marketing serves as the chief communications strategist and editor for the College of Education. The director oversees, develops, and implements strategies that effectively communicate the story of the College of Education, builds relationships with alumni and other stakeholders, and strengthens the college’s brand as a leader. The director will serve as a member of the college’s leadership team and will partner with units across the college to help meet enrollment and reputational goals. The successful candidate will bring strong writing skills, proficiency in social media integration, and a data-informed approach to developing and optimizing a range of messaging initiatives.
Essential Functions
1. As a member of the college’s leadership council, advise the dean and senior leadership on communications trends and opportunities.
2. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to create and implement a communications plan that supports the college’s strategic priorities, raises the college’s visibility, and enhances the college’s reputation/brand at the local, state, regional, and national level.
3. Write, edit, and direct the generation of news release copy, publication material, and web content.
4. Oversee all college-wide print and digital communications to ensure branding consistency, including supervision of staff responsible for updating, maintaining, and redesigning collateral materials, the college website, and social media platforms.
5. Establish and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
6. Provide speech writing and presentation support as required by the Dean.
7. Interpret campaign data and utilize data visualization tools to present information to internal and external stakeholders.
8. Serve as the initial point of contact for media relations efforts.
9. Work closely with the university’s Office of Advancement and the college’s Office of Development in accordance with the goals and objectives of the new university Advancement model.
10.Develop and manage departmental budget and approve financial reports, vouchers, and acquisitions
