Job/Department Summary:

Under general direction, the incumbent undertakes a wide range of high-level research projects and data analytics in alignment with university priorities and institutional accountability. Helping to shape a culture of inquiry and data-informed decision-making.

The incumbent conducts analytical studies utilizing sound project methods and design and participates in the following areas: data quality assurance and integrity checking; working with data warehouse technical staff on the programming and machine processing of data; survey administration/analysis; and building data dashboards. Utilizing qualitative and quantitative analysis of data related to enrollment/retention/graduation trends, the incumbent executes research studies, interprets the data, presents research findings, and effectively disseminates the findings with university constituents in such a way that they will be useful for decision-making and institutional improvement.

Mandatory Vaccinations:

The CSU requires faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be immunized against COVID-19 or have received a medical or religious exemption. Selected candidates should be prepared to comply with this requirement.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
  • Bilingual.
  • Graduate degree in data science or related discipline, and at least one year of research or related technical experience; or a Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience designing and conducting research.
  • Experience in a higher education environment; experience with student learning outcomes assessment is strongly preferred.
  • Training and/or experience with the use of data mining (or machine learning) techniques and algorithms such as decision trees and cluster analysis.
  • Working knowledge of predictive modeling and model verification.
  • Demonstrated experience using business intelligence and analytics platforms such as MS Power BI, Tableau, IBM Cognos, or data science toolkits such as R and SPSS.
Required Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university (Additional qualifying professional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis).
AND
Three years of progressively responsible technical research or statistical experience including or supplemented by one year in the interpretation and graphic presentation of data.
  • Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 7:00-5:30. * Telework may be available part-time.

Salary and Benefits Information:

$4,789 - $8,664 per month / $57,468 - $103,968 annually (Initial placement within the salary range for new employees is contingent upon education and experience).

This position qualifies for benefits including tuition fee waiver (if eligible).
