Job Summary

The Assistant Director for North Lake Village and West Lake Village directs all functions related to the day-to-day operations of North Lake and West Lake Village. This position provides strong supervision to three Resident Directors and a Residence Life Coordinator. Responsible for implementing the residential curriculum for the area. This is a live-in, essential personnel position.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Directs all functions related to the day-to-day operations of North Lake and West Lake Village including the recruitment, assessment, and supervision of departmental employees.
  • Provides direct supervision and leadership to Resident Directors and a Residence Life Coordinator. Provides indirect supervision to Resident Assistants, and Residence Life Team Assistants.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and interpretation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the development, delivery, evaluation, and implementation of residential curriculum, and services for residential students.
  • Serves as a conduct officer for cases involving alleged violations of the code of conduct and housing community guidebook.
  • Responds to student behavior, emergency and special situations or occurrences in the residential community.
  • Responds to student and parent concerns and other University offices for information or assistance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all programs, activities, and series comply with university, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assists with the design, implementation, and assessment of the recruitment, selection, and training programs for staff. Coordinates area staff meetings and individual meetings with employees.
  • Establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success of assigned area of responsibility.
  • Maintains budget allocations and approves expenditures for programs and services.
  • Collaborates with various departments and colleges on programs and activities that enhance the academic experience of South Village residents.
  • Assists with student leadership development. Provides direction and advises groups affiliated with the residential program, such as the Resident Housing Association, National Residence Hall Honorary, and Area Councils.
  • Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.
Other Duties:
  • Conducts presentations and participates in marketing efforts on behalf of the office of Housing & Residence Life (OHRL).
  • Participates in university events and serves on committees.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field.

Two years of full-time experience in residence life or student services.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook).

Serves on the on-call rotation schedule and must be available to respond 24 hours per day on a 7 days per week basis for student needs and emergencies.

Required to live on-campus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four years of professional full-time experience in residence life or university housing setting.

Experience in applying student development theories to program development.

Experience in responding to crisis situation, parent and student concerns, and inquiries.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of student development theory, techniques and research.

Knowledge of fundamental aspects of college student intellectual, emotional, and social development.

Knowledge of campus resources used to support the residential program and individual students.

Knowledge of the fundamental indicators of student mental health concerns, substance abuse, and domestic violence.

Knowledge and understanding of management principles, practices, and standards, as applied to public institutions.

Salary Range:

$47,200 to $61,400 depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
