Job Description
The Public Health Program (https://publichealth.vt.edu) in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (http://www.vetmed.vt.edu) at Virginia Tech offers a Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) degree and is seeking applications for a Collegiate Assistant or Associate Professor of Public Health with expertise in public health and health equity, and a major commitment to the instructional mission of the department. The successful candidate: (1) must be an effective teacher in the discipline and able to create new teaching materials through evaluating research that applies to public health; (2) teach an average of three undergraduate public health classes each semester; (3) mentor undergraduate students; (4) conduct research related to the discipline and/or pedagogy resulting in peer reviewed publications and presentations at local, state, or national conferences; (5) serve on departmental, college, or university committees as a contributing member of the department and the broader university community; (6) provide outreach and professional service in technical and professional societies and associations; (7) support advancing One Health in public health; (8) work collaboratively across disciplines to enhance the curricula and promote teaching excellence; and (9) Virginia Tech’s motto, Ut Prosim (that I may serve) is a program core value with the expectation that faculty will engage in scholarship, practice and volunteer work in our surrounding communities in Southwest and Southside Virginia, the Commonwealth, Central Appalachia, the Nation and the world. Please note this is a full-time, in-person position as it is essential for student support; however, the Department of Population Health Sciences supports flexibility to telework while in a modified, reduced, essential or closure operation status or emergences situations such as the Covid-19 pandemic. The chosen candidate will be asked to complete a telework agreement during onboarding.

Required Qualifications
-PhD/DrPH in public health or terminal degree in related discipline
-Expertise in health equity
-Record of teaching effectiveness commensurate with collegiate faculty at the Assistant or Associate Rank
-Record of scholarship commensurate with Assistant or Associate rank
-Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines
-Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
-MPH or equivalent experience in public health
-Undergraduate teaching in public health or related field
-Willingness to engage with and mentor students through experiential learning
