The Johns Hopkins University Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking a creative and motivated individual for a teaching track faculty position. The faculty member will instruct and help develop new educational programs within the department's undergraduate and graduate programs in biomedical data science.

The Johns Hopkins University Department of Biomedical Engineering is the #1 Biomedical Engineering program in the nation, as ranked by US News & World Report. Biomedical data science is an emerging major research and educational focus area of the department, and the recruited lecturer will assist with teaching existing and new courses in this area. This focus area will train undergraduate, masters and graduate students in core principles of data science and their applications in biomedical science and medicine. This lecturer will be expected to play a major role in both developing and delivering this curriculum.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD degree in a related engineering discipline such as applied mathematics, biomedical engineering, computer science, or electrical and computer engineering. They should also have research experience in biomedical data science. Teaching experience is also required, either in the form of formal education in an academic setting or mentorship and talent development in an industrial setting.

Specific responsibilities include: 1) contributing to the development and teaching of an undergraduate Biomedical Data Science course, 2) contributing to the development and teaching of a graduate-level Advanced Biomedical Data Science course; and 3) creating partnerships with clinicians and other biomedical researchers that advance the research and education mission.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
