POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Coordinator coordinates clinical education with didactic education, instructs and evaluates students as assigned by the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program Director. Serves as a liaison between JJC and the affiliated clinical agencies. Monitors, evaluates and ensures the effectiveness of the clinical education of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Adapts to new and changing situations and demonstrates a positive attitude. Demonstrates respect for students including maintaining confidentiality; understands learning styles and applies understanding to institution-related activities; demonstrates integrity and promotes diversity and open communications.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.

2. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning by possessing and maintaining a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to the assigned tasks and keeping informed of current trends in the fields of sonography and health care.

3. Act as a liaison between clinical agencies and the college. orient, mentor, visit and communicate

regularly with clinical instructors. Facilitate direct and indirect instruction and supervision of students in the clinical setting.

4. Investigate and secure new clinical sites including the implementation of clinical affiliation agreements with goal to grow the DMS program.

5. Be responsible for coordinating clinical education with didactic education as assigned by the DMS

Program Director.

6. Develop clinical assignments and schedules for students. Maintain clinical education documentation of assignments, rotations, attendance, and student evaluations.

7. Evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of clinical experiences for the concentration(s) students are

enrolled in.

8. Provide clinical instruction and document the evaluation and progression of clinical performance

leading to clinical competence.

9. Respond to questions and concerns of students and prospective students in a timely manner.

10. Identify at-risk students and clinical issues promptly. Develop plan of action to facilitate student

success in collaboration with the DMS Program Director and the appropriate clinical instructor(s).

11. Regularly meet with the Program Director to discuss student progression and clinical activity.

12. Assess each clinical education site’s quality, quantity and diversity of learning experiences to align with the educational needs of students.

13. Ensure effectiveness of the clinical sites, and exam quantity and equity among students to meet the benchmarks for success.

14. Attend the meetings and events related to the program, such as new student orientation and the DMS Advisory Committee meetings.

15. Maintain accurate and complete documentation for all JRC-DMS clinical requirements.

16. Send out graduate and employer surveys for program assessment at the completion of the program.

17. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

18. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Possess an academic degree no lower than an Associate degree and at least equal to that for which the graduates are being prepared.

2. Possess the appropriate credentials specific to the concentrations offered. Must be ARDMS certified in Abdomen, OB/GYN, RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) and be in good standing. This certification must be maintained on a continuous basis.

3. Have documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance and in educational theories and techniques.

4. Have a minimum of two years of full-time experience as a general Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer and Registered Vascular Technologist in the professional sonography field.

5. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

6. Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation for travel to various clinical sites.

7. Documentation of experience in educational theories and techniques may include completed college courses, seminars, or in-service sessions on topics including, but not limited to, learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to healthcare and/or education.

2. Experience in activities that focus on assessment and student learning outcomes.

3. Experience working with students in the clinical setting.

4. Teaching experience at the collegiate level.

5. Experience at the community college level.

6. Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs.

8. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

9. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

10. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Standard office equipment and software. Standard hospital equipment and software. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must distinguish audible sounds.
