Position Summary

As part of the University of Georgia’s Precision One Health Hiring Initiative, the Department of Population Health is seeking a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor focused on Precision Diagnostics. The selected faculty member will utilize molecular diagnostic tools to rapidly identify unique antigenic and pathogenic characteristics, biomarkers, and distinctive metabolic pathways, of disease agents of human and animal populations. In addition, this position will develop bioinformatic pipelines that harness molecular data with individual and temporal metadata sets of samples to provide a clear understanding of the disease etiology, ecology, transmission dynamics, pathogenesis, and host and environmental factors that contribute to disease progression.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record working with and analyzing the microbiota in food and fiber animals with a focus on diagnostics, epidemiology and ecology of infectious disease. Successful candidates for this position will have the opportunity to participate in an interdisciplinary precision medicine program that includes a team of basic and applied scientists, engineers, frontline practitioners, policy-makers and communications experts all working together with OMICS experts to translate basic findings from the bench to the bedside or industry, with the goal of improving the health and wellbeing of food and fiber animals, pets and their human families. The Precision Health and Medicine initiative at UGA seeks to hire 16 new faculty positions that will focus on 3 pillars of infectious and non-infectious disease management including pathogenesis and diagnostics (this position), preventive measures and therapeutic intervention.

The College of Veterinary Medicine will utilize this initiative to demonstrate our commitment to diversifying our faculty and ensure that we maintain and grow the culture of equity and inclusivity in our college. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values of the university and college, and this hiring initiative will make use of the best practices to ensure an inclusive search process. The Diversity and Inclusion Plan for the college identifies priority areas for our investments and through the 2021-2022 academic year we will develop a Diversity Strategic Plan as part of a campus-wide effort.

Rank, salary, and terms of appointment will be dependent upon qualifications and experience of the applicant.
