Lecturer in Public Health & Mental Health

The University of North Carolina Asheville Department of Health and Wellness invites applications for a Lecturer (2-years) in public health and mental health to begin Fall 2022. Experience and expertise in public and community health, with training or a particular interest in  mental health is required. Preference will be given to candidates with additional academic preparation or experience in research methods. Candidate's primary teaching responsibilities will include courses within the fields of public health, mental and emotional health, research methods as well as other health promotion courses within their area of expertise. Qualifications include demonstrated excellence in teaching and clear articulation of a commitment to student learning through teaching and advising in a liberal arts and sciences setting. 
UNC Asheville jointly offers a Master of Public Health program in partnership with the UNC Chapel Hill's Gillings School of Global Public Health. Responsibilities include teaching 8 to 12 credit hours (typically 2 to 3 courses) per semester in the Department of Health and Wellness and up to 4 credit hours in the MPH program (typically 0 to 1 course) for a maximum of 12 credit hours/semester. Projected courses include Mental and Emotional Health, Research Methods for undergraduates and courses in public and community health at the undergraduate or graduate level. Responsibilities also include serving as a student advisor and performing other duties as assigned by the department chair. A graduate degree in public health, social work, counseling or a related field is required. PhD or ABD is preferred.  UNC Asheville is a leading public liberal arts institution with a deep commitment to teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses (12 contact hours) per semester, engage in service to the institution, the community and the profession, and ideally work with our students in some area of the discipline specific to their expertise.
