Job Description Summary

Wentworth Institute of Technology is seeking applicants interested in joining the Wentworth community as a Communications Specialist in Public Safety .

Wentworth is currently seeking to fill two (2) Communication Specialists at this time.

The mission of the Department of Public Safety is to provide a safe campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors of Wentworth Institute of Technology; to facilitate the university’s educational, research, and community service goals; and to provide these services with the highest standards of professionalism.

The essential job functions include:
  • Monitoring alarms for the entire university system while dispatching the proper response.
  • Operating a multi-line telephone system.
  • Prioritizing calls and entering the data into a computer-aided dispatch system.
  • Asking vital questions and providing pre-arrival instructions for response.
  • Monitoring and operating a radio console and computer equipment.
  • Receiving and responding to a variety of calls for service and complaints.
  • Asking questions to interpret, analyze, and anticipate the caller’s situation as well as resolving problems by providing information, dispatching emergency services, or referring callers to other agencies.
  • Dispatching and coordinating the responses of the Department of Public Safety.

Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations. Uses instructions and guidelines to perform the job safety function. Periodic training will be required.
