Assistant Director for Student Orientation and Transitions

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, the Assistant Director for Student Orientation and Transitions (Assistant Director 3) has primary responsibility for the coordination, implementation and assessment of student affairs programming for new and transfer student orientations. In partnership with the Division of Enrollment Services and the Division of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing collaborative, integrated and comprehensive orientation and transition programs that promote the persistence and success of new freshman and transfer undergraduate students. Through collaborations with campus stakeholders, the Assistant Director is a member of a campus-wide team that strives to provide a welcome experience that assists students in their connection to the university, acclimates them socially and academically to the institution and builds their identity as valued members of a world-class, vibrant and diverse campus community.

This position requires a summer residency live-in component, which requires living on campus in an assigned residence hall during summer overnight New Student Orientation sessions. This position also requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours and travel to the Kean Ocean and Kean Skylands campuses and other locations.

This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. It requires working on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic and interacting directly with students following all procedures and protocols set forth in the University’s Restart Plan and any procedures/protocols created through additional correspondence.

Candidate must have proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook; excellent analytical and organizational skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse faculty, staff and student constituencies. Preferred qualifications include: a Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or a related field; experience with event planning; experience with new student programs, co-curricular student programs and/or supervising student employees; previous experience with residence life staffing or a community living environment with on-call response; experience with advanced usage of Microsoft Excel/Google Spreadsheets to combine data from multiple sources into manageable reports and documents for data management; and experience using Ellucian (Colleague, CRM Recruit and CRM Advise), Campus Labs (Baseline and Collegiate Link/Engage) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop).

Candidacy review begins immediately and continues until appointment is made. Please submit your cover letter, resume/CV and contact information for three professional references. Official transcripts for all degrees are required prior to the starting date of employment.
