Student Development Specialist *Revised*

Reporting to the Director of the Bridge to Success Program (formerly PASSPORT), the Student Development Specialist (Professional Services Specialist 3) will support the mission of the Program, which provides access to freshmen applicants who do not fully meet University admission requirements, but who are determined and have potential to succeed academically. The Program provides student-centered advising and counseling to assist students in developing intellectually, socially, culturally and personally to reach the ultimate goal of completing their baccalaureate degree.

The Student Development Specialist will provide academic advisement, financial aid guidance, career advice and personal counseling to Program students. The Student Development Specialist will monitor student’s academic development, provide academic enhancement activities, assist with summer orientation and meet regularly with students. They will assist the Director by monitoring registration, retention, graduation, financial aid and other important data. This person will also assist with recruitment.

This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience providing support services or counseling services to young adults and/or college students is required. Experience in counseling and academic advisement, financial aid, career development, residence life and/or the first year experience in higher education is preferred. A Master’s degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Candidate must be student centered; possess excellent organizational skills and customer service skills; and have the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and administrators to support students' success. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Must have computer literacy, including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs, computer databases and technologies such as web-based services and social media.
