The Office of Institutional Equity, Effectiveness and Success (IES) advances VCU’s commitment to the success and wellbeing of its faculty, staff, students, team members, patients and surrounding communities. From its work in the areas of equal opportunity and outreach to collective urban and regional impact, IES translates philosophy into practice to achieve education and health equity for all.

Through a unique partnership with VCU Health System, one of the largest academic health centers in Virginia, a health hub model has been developed to establish a health education and wellness center designed to align VCU/VCUHS assets with community resources to address needs identified by residents of the East End in the City of Richmond. The VCU Health Hub at 25th is focused on engaging academic, health care, and community partners in education, research and service initiatives focused on improving the health of populations served, addressing long standing health disparities, and building community partnerships.

VCU Health Hub at 25th seeks a community-focused Executive Director to provide visionary leadership and operational oversight. The Executive Director works strategically to align VCU’s teaching, research, and clinical assets while advancing positive health and wellness outcomes.

Position Summary

The Executive Director will lead a model health education and wellness center located in a community with both disparity and assets. This center community hub is a population health initiative to address the social determinants of health through sustained partnership and collaboration. Using a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach, the Executive Director will sustain and lead innovative community-informed health programs and services that promote community health and well-being, human flourishing, and health equity. In partnership with VCU Community Engagement leadership, this individual will leverage community expertise and priorities to foster mutual learning, community and student engagement, capacity building and trust, translational research, and meaningful community impact. Through motivational leadership, they will foster productive collaborations and move ideas from concept into action.

Representative Duties

- Provide strategic and visionary direction and leadership for the Health Hub
- Guide and oversee daily operations, services, programs and personnel
- Ensure positive, respectful, and productive participant experiences that centers human dignity and autonomy
- Provide inspirational management to staff; functions include but are not limited to task coordination and performance management
- Coordinate with partnering organizations, which include the VCU Office of Institutional Equity, Effectiveness and Success, Health -Hub Community Advisory Council, Market@25th, VCU Health, and VCU Colleges and Schools and numerous other local community partner and grassroot organizations
- Foster constructive and mutually beneficial and trusting relationships with key stakeholders such as residents, community partners, community advisory council, city officials, philanthropic and nonprofit leaders, and others.
- Align efforts with local, regional and national public and population health initiatives, strategies and partners.
- Oversee and facilitate the collaborative development and delivery of programs, services and opportunities that respond to community need and priorities including but not limited to a focus on behavioral health and physical wellness
- Lead evaluation efforts in consort with researchers to identify measures of success and demonstrate ongoing impact
- Provide public outreach and leadership; champion the Hub and effectively convey public health benefits.
- Promote the visibility of health hub programs, services and initiatives through multiple platforms and strategic communication efforts.
- Establish the local and national prominence of the Hub as a community engaged health and wellness center.
- Oversee budgeting and fiscal administration (if applicable)
- Maintain responsibility for Hub compliance with applicable institutional policies, laws, and state and federal regulations, to include reporting
- Participate in development, grant writing, and revenue generation activities (if applicable)

Required Qualifications

- A graduate degree or equivalent education and experience
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and leadership skills
- A high tolerance for rapid change and the ability to manage change effectively
- A passion for quality, compliance and value in service and program delivery
- Knowledge of community-based health promotion strategies and community engagement best practices.
- A demonstrated commitment to addressing health disparities, health equity and social justice
- Demonstrated experience addressing social determinants of health and generating equitable solutions.
- Demonstrated experience working in partnership with diverse communities to address health disparities and improve health outcomes
- The ability to work well under pressure and manage responsibilities with ease and composure
- Five or more years of successful supervisory experience within a healthcare, academic, or wellness center environment
- Experience working with low-income or underserved communities
- Advanced knowledge of public health, community-based participatory and/or community-engaged research, and evidence based practices
- The ability to effectively interface with a diverse group of stakeholders, to include community members, researchers, staff, students, faculty, funders, activity leaders, and wellness practitioners

Preferred Qualifications

-A Ph.D. or other terminal degree
-Knowledge of complex funding arrangements, to include fiscal administration philanthropic revenue streams, grants, and insurance
-The ability to conduct quantitative evaluation, and to use databases, Google workplace, and Office products
-Participatory strategic planning expertise
-Previous experience working in an academic institution

Salary Range: To commensurate with experience
