The Partnership for People with Disabilities, Virginia's University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), located within VCU's School of Education is hiring an Assistant Director of Disability Leadership. This is a 12-month position. The mission of the Partnership for People with Disabilities is to partner with stakeholders in the intellectual and developmental disability community and faculty and staff throughout Virginia Commonwealth University to provide culturally competent and engaged research, education, direct services, and information sharing to ensure people with disabilities and their families can live, learn, work and play together as a part of their community. The position is located at VCU in Richmond and parking expenses are the responsibility of the employee. Summary
Assistant Directors support strategic goals and the university mission by providing daily administration of a research program or administrative function. They are operational managers responsible for the supervision and development of staff or the development and implementation of services. They may be responsible for multiple components of a comprehensive or specialized program. They implement the operational goals established by executive and senior leadership. Assistant Directors typically serve as liaisons between internal departments or functional areas in order to achieve operational goals. They have a measurable impact within the department and influence service delivery and operational goals. Under intermittent supervision, they exercise independent judgement for routine-to-moderately complex issues, referring complex issues to a higher level. They typically report to executive leadership.
Typical Duties
The Assistant Director of Disability Leadership will serve as an organizational level leader to represent lived experience and disability leadership for our UCEDD. The position will manage multiple grant projects that promote disability leadership and self-advocacy; conceptualize and seek funding for new projects that promote disability leadership; represent the disability leadership and voice within the UCEDD and with external partners; and facilitate and support people with disabilities to provide voice, input, leadership to Partnership and external projects using multiple strategies to maximize participation. Other duties as assigned.
Typical Education and Experience
Required qualifications for this position include a Master's degree in human services-related field, five years professional experience in disability leadership, experience successfully securing funding for new work and in managing project activities and staff. Applicants must have experience in supporting the well-being and participation of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and lived experience with disability. Excellent written and oral communication skills and evidence of innovative and creative thinking are also required.
This position will be required to travel and will be reimbursed at the state rate. Also it is resource critical.
