The University Center (UC) invites applications for a Graphic Designer II . The marketing unit supports the overall mission of the University Center in their ability to develop and use effective promotions, communications and informational pieces in a variety of media and formats. This position is a member of the University Center’s Marketing Unit and the various job duties of the position cover multiple areas of communication. This includes website design and maintenance, graphic design, and special projects. This position must be able to stay informed of marketing, branding, and social media trends so that the University Center’s communication efforts foster our ability to strategically respond to and communicate with the community. In accordance with University policy, University Center standards, and in communication and consultation (as needed) with the University Center Marketing Director, the Graphic Designer may supervise a Graphic Designer I and student employees to manage and assign workflow, duties, and tasks. Work hours may vary according to need. Evening and/or weekend work is not routine but some may be required on occasion.

Key duties and responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for website design, layout, maintenance and editorial content of the UC website and any secondary sites that are under the purview of the University Center
  • Design and maintain independent websites with social media and registration for 15 to 30 conferences annually for Conference Management Services
  • Design print and digital presence for Conference Management Services
  • Design print and digital presence for Todd Building
  • Design print and digital presence for ASUM
  • Lead designer in charge of graphic design and digital presence
  • Maintain all Social Media channels and web tools
  • Work with UC Marketing Office student staff, provides training, planning, and helps ensure execution of daily operations
  • Ensure excellent customer service standards and convenient services
  • Assign work, organize, direct, schedule priorities, and determine staffing needs
  • Ensure compliance to departmental standards and mandatory deadlines
  • Supervise multiple projects, establish production schedules, set priorities, manage deadlines, and assign various tasks
  • Disseminate information accurately and in a timely manner
  • Determine appropriate usages of social networks and other emerging communication technologies
  • Plan and coordinate development, scheduling and deployment of digital content for the UC social media channels
  • Ensure that technology applications comply with institutional deign and Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Identify primary markets and develop and use effective promotions, communications, and informational pieces in a variety of media and formats
  • Formulate and implement marketing objectives
After a reasonable training period, the incumbent should have a working knowledge and ability of the following:
  • Ability to work with noise and frequent interruptions and distractions
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and deadlines
  • Ability to work with a group that is transitory in nature (student staff turnover is frequent)
  • Ability as a team member of the UC demonstrating interest and concern for its overall success in fulfilling its mission
  • Participate on various UC and University committees and work on special projects as assigned
  • Establish and maintain good communication and relationships with University and Enrollment and Student Affairs information technology teams
  • Ability to ensure UC compliance to the University and Enrollment and Student Affairs information technology policies
  • Understanding of appropriate applications of technology in programs and services utilized by UC employees
  • Thorough understanding of utilizing the University of Montana brand and its policies and procedures of its use
Required Skills
  • Ability to perform the job responsibilities and make decisions with minimal supervision
  • Significant knowledge of graphic design concept and theories, software, and hardware
  • Ability to navigate and utilize web applications
  • Utilizing a content management system, ability to design, maintain and update websites
  • Ability to develop and manage production timelines
  • Ability to establish and maintain clear lines of communication with students, campus departments, outside agencies, businesses, and the public
  • Basic understanding of student union philosophy and the role of a college union
  • Experience in the development of creative marketing campaigns, with preference given to working with a young adult population
  • Ability to hire and supervise permanent and student staff and the ability to train staff on graphic design software and hardware
  • Supervise multiple projects, establishing production schedules, setting priorities, managing deadlines, and assigning various tasks
  • Ability to establish and maintain a current and thorough understanding of various specialized software applications by attending trainings, taking online tutorials, and reading supplemental materials as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • BA in Business, Marketing, Media Arts, or any combination of experience/education to perform position duties
  • Specific proficiencies in computer hardware/software/social media channels
  • Knowledge and proficient use of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to work in both PC and Mac environments

Position Details

Position Title : Graphic Designer II
Position Number: NEW
Department : University Center
Work Schedule : Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year. Evening and/or weekend work is not routine but may be required on occasion.
Salary : $18.789$/hr
Union Affiliation : FOCUS-MFPE
Probationary Period: Six months minimum
