Job Summary:
Ph.D. in German Studies preferred by August 1, 2022; ABD considered. Native or near-native fluency in German and English and prior teaching experience required. Specialty open, but we would be especially interested in candidates with expertise in topics relating to one or more of the following: 17th-, 18th-, or 19th-century literature; environmental studies; migration studies; Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Ability to teach “German for the Professions,” “Natural Environment in German Literature and Thought,” and/or a first-year writing seminar desirable. Candidates must demonstrate scholarly potential as well as commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching at all levels of language, literature and culture in a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with historically underrepresented students, including students of color, and be committed to assisting the university in its continuing efforts to become a model of inclusive excellence. They will also demonstrate the enthusiasm and potential to make dynamic contributions in line with The Furman Advantage. Teaching load is five courses per year. Competitive salary and benefits.

Visiting Assistant Professor of German

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Furman University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of German, effective August 2022. Located in Greenville, SC, Furman University is a nationally-ranked, top 50 liberal arts college which aspires to become a leader among its peer institutions in making meaningful and lasting progress in responding to the needs and concerns of people of color, women, and those who identify as LGBTQIA+.
