Job Description Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer or Professor of Practice to begin in August 2022. This position is a non-tenure track academic year appointment, with primary responsibility to teach a selection of courses in the Nuclear Power Generation Systems ( NPGS ) minor and Mechanical Engineering. The position is renewable annually and summer teaching opportunities could also be available, both subject to availability of funds. The successful candidate is expected to bring experience, innovation, enthusiasm, technology, and leadership to the NPGS and Department of Mechanical Engineering educational programs. A typical teaching load will be three courses per semester, which includes course and laboratory development and management activities. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants for Lecturer must have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an ABET accredited institution at time employment begins, and prior commercial or US Navy nuclear power plant experience.

Applicants for Professor of Practice must have significant professional experience in operations, engineering, or training at a commercial or naval nuclear power plant.

The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

The candidate selected for this position must demonstrate a strong commitment and potential to excel at teaching in the areas of NPGS and Mechanical Engineering. While not mandatory, prior teaching and/or industrial experience will be valued in the review process.
