Schedule: Hybrid: Monday – Friday up to 29 hours a week. This is a temporay position that will run from May 2022 - August 2022.

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY
The Columbus State Upward Bound (UB) program serves 70 high school students from Columbus City Schools. UB works with first-generation and/or income-eligible students to help them graduate and develop skills necessary for college enrollment and completion. The Summer Specialist will collaborate with colleagues to provide various opportunities for participants to build academic proficiency and social/cultural competency. The Summer Specialist will assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating program activities and events, and will assist with recruitment and retention of program participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Program Support
Provide mentoring and transitional support to recent high school graduates participating in the UB summer component. Assists with the needs of the UB Summer Enrichment Institute (SEI) for rising 9th-12th grade students.

Customer Service
Report to the site on time and prepared, as directed. Model professional behavior with participants, parents, and staff. Handle disruptive behavior with respect. Follow guidelines, processes, and procedures. Report any issues to the UB Program Manager, Advisor, or TRIO Director.

Classroom & Community Support
Monitor the progress of each BRIDGE or College Credit Plus (CCP) student to ensure successful completion of their summer course. Lead group study sessions and provide one-on-one mentoring to ensure BRIDGE or CCP students follow and understand course curriculum/assignments.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively participates in staff development workshops which contribute to personal and professional growth. Attend all required department meetings and training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. The employee occasionally lifts or exerts a force of up to 10 pounds when moving files, boxes, and other materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED with experience in college readiness/access. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
