Financial Services Advisor


Roles : Provide support to Financial Aid and Finance & Accounting Services departments by providing quality customer service as first point of contact for students, parents, and all other stakeholders. Review application, eligibility, and transactional detail to provide accurate and timely financial aid (for all sources: federal, state, institutional, and private) and student account (billing, payment, and balance) information to constituents in person, by phone, email, social media, and/or mail. Provide back office support and contribute to departmental meetings as needed. Assist in all aspects of applying for institutional, federal, state, and private sources of aid to assure all funds are processed and delivered in a timely and compliant manner.

Responsibilities :

· Support and understand Northwood’s Code of Ethics, Values, and Outcomes

· Support and understand the departments role in meeting enrollment and retention goals

· Support admissions efforts to recruit and matriculate students (including orientation)

· Provide front-line customer service to greet (reception) for all traffic to building and counsel students and parents on financial aid eligibility and student account status including the financial aid application process and documentation requirements, account balance and payment assistance by phone, email, social media, mail, and in person traffic

· Compile, track, and monitor applicable paper and electronic (imaged) documents for each department

· Track and follow up on missing requirements, documents, and payments as needed

· Provide efficient and timely student paper and electronic file maintenance

· Process incoming and outgoing departmental mail, email, publication, and all other correspondence

· Advise and provide federal and private loan counseling, including entrance and exit interview processes

· Monitor student with outstanding application requirements and provide notification as needed

o Incomplete, erroneous, or conflicting information follow up, tracking, notification, and reminders

o Verification documents, loan requirements (entrance and/or exit counseling), etc

o Consortium contracts with other schools

o Watch imaging queues for accurate and timely processing

· Collect, process, and route student employment, bookstore, award, and other documents/records as needed

· Produce merit scholarship, award, and missing information letters and other electronic notifications

· Monitor web and social media sites for accuracy

· Provide community outreach/FAFSA nights as needed

· Special projects as assigned

Expectations :

· Provide in depth assistance and follow through to families and/or staff

· Thoroughly understand federal and/or state regulations and institutional policies

· Effectively collaborate with key departments while continually striving for quality customer service

· Support departmental initiatives and assist in collaborating and cross training to continuously improve customer service

· Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time or with frequent interruptions

· Ability to function in office environment utilizing physical and electronic methods

· Ability to process and interpret daily correspondence and respond or route appropriately



Qualifications:

· Exceptional customer service skills

· Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

· Strict attention to detail and ability to multitask

· Ability to work independently

· Have one to three years of financial aid and/or financial and accounting services experience

· Computer, analytical and interpersonal skills

· Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, effectively, and efficiently

· Ability to troubleshoot and adapt to change

· Have a Bachelor’s degree
