Position Summary

This is a 9-month tenure track appointment with expected research (47%), teaching (47%), and professional service (6%) responsibilities at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia ( UGA ). This position will be focused on the use of contemporary and advanced silvicultural methods to improve forest management, aimed at improving site-specific prescriptions at a range of spatial scales to serve a variety of ecosystem services. The candidate will use appropriate statistical methods and sampling techniques to address diverse forest management, forest health, and carbon sustainability issues that are relevant to private landowners, industry and governmental agencies. The position will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Plantation Management Research Cooperative ( PMRC ), the Wood Quality Consortium ( WQC ), and the Southern Pine Health Research Cooperative ( SPHRC ). These three industry-supported cooperatives span the full range of forest management, wood quality, and forest health research issues relevant to Georgia and southeast US.

To be considered for the Associate Professor level, candidates must provide examples of unique and significant contributions in research and teaching as well as convincing evidence of emerging stature as a regional or national authority in their field.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Applicants must have scholarly publications or at least three years of other documented experience relevant to the position description with a focus on forest management decision making.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

The successful candidate will have a strong background in silviculture, with preferred knowledge in forest soils, plant nutrition, tree ecophysiology, statistical analysis and their integration to support land management decision-making for intensively managed forests. Evidence of activity in research design, grant development, presentation of results at scientific meetings and publication of results in leading peer-reviewed journals or industry experience are preferred.

Demonstrated multidisciplinary collaborative work is preferred, with expectations for similar continued efforts with faculty both in Warnell, including the PMRC, WQC, and SPHRC, and across the University. Strengths in oral and written communication must be evident, and evidence of excellence in teaching is preferred.
