Job Description:

Oakton Community College is seeking a dynamic Online Entrepreneurship Instructor to serve as lead trainer for a special racial equity-based Entrepreneurial Incubator Program. The Entrepreneurial Incubator Program, offered in partnership with the Youth Job Center of Evanston, addresses systemic problems of racial inequity in the Evanston Community through a cohort-based entrepreneurial training and small business development program for BIPOC young people ages 18-25. This position is grant-funded.

The selected candidate will be joining an enthusiastic team of other trainers, staff, and community leaders to support the goals of this high-impact initiative. In their role, the candidate will provide training/instruction for a two-phased intensive experience. The first phase will expose participants to the field of Entrepreneurship and the history of Black Entrepreneurship while helping students to define, refine, and assess their business idea. The second phase will help students to develop their business model canvas, establish a business structure, establish a basic brand and marketing strategy, set a business budget, establish pricing, secure their accounting and bookkeeping systems, and more.

In addition to providing instruction, the candidate in this role will work with the team to finalize and refine any needed curriculum development and attend occasional check-ins to assess the progress of students

Essential Functions of the Position:
  • Provide direct and engaging instruction in a remote setting
  • Utilize online learning platforms and digital tools to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Adapt and differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with students, contacting them as needed with the intent to promote persistence and retention.
  • Comply with departmental curricula, grading standards, attendance policies, textbook choices, assessments, and other established processes.
  • Monitor student progress, report outcomes, and refer students for additional assessments and/or support services.
  • Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislations.

Requirements:

Specific Qualifications Include
  • At least 1 year of experience teaching/training/coaching on business/entrepreneurial topics. Specific college or university experience not required.
  • Experience with course and curriculum development, training development, or project management and a willingness to be innovative in the virtual classroom.
  • Direct experience working with the BIPOC community and a strong commitment to racial-equity, inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility
  • Experience utilizing Learning Management Systems (LMS) and web-conferencing platforms for teaching and training in an online environment
  • Experience in ideation, launching, and/or scaling a business through business ownership or at an organization in the start-up phase preferred. This includes product or service-based businesses.

Additional Information:

Pay for instruction will be $50-60 per hour with a flat fee of $750 for curriculum development
Class sessions are tentatively scheduled to convene Monday's 6-8pm March through the end of June 2022
