The Department of Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a lecturer in biological anthropology to begin in August 2022.

We seek a forensic anthropologist to teach sections of introductory biological anthropology, forensic anthropology, bioarchaeology, and upper-level undergraduate courses based on the candidate’s area of specialization. The selected candidate will teach a 4/4 load (with the possibility of additional summer courses). This is a permanent, full-time position which can be renewed annually. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to partner with interdisciplinary programs across campus and be a part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary department.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:

• An MA in Anthropology with substantial professional and/or research experience is required; a PhD in Anthropology is preferred. Individuals who are "all but dissertation" (ABD) will be considered.
• Proven experience in forensic anthropology and biological anthropology.
• Preference will be given to qualified applicants who also have professional forensic or applied bioarchaeological experience.
• Applicants must be able to teach forensic anthropology. Preference will be given to individuals with existing experience teaching courses on these topics: biological anthropology, bioarchaeology, paleopathology, and osteological analysis.
• Geographic area of expertise is open. Alignment with existing areas of expertise in the Anthropology department would be preferred, including the Southeast United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
• A clear commitment to research ethics is required.
• Experience with NAGPRA is desirable. The land upon which the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga is built is part of the traditional territory of the Tsalagi peoples (now Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, and United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians), Tsoyahá peoples (Yuchi, Muscogee Creek), and Shawnee peoples.
• Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including lab-based, online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses.
• Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals as specified in UTC’s Strategic Plan, including a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.
• Scholars representing traditionally underserved groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The Department of Social, Cultural, and Justice Studies (SCJS), within the College of Arts and Sciences, offers B.A. or B.S. degrees in Anthropology, a minor in Geography, a B.S. in Sociology, and a B.S. in Criminal Justice (including an online B.S. program).
