Position Title Post-Doctoral Fellow – Full-Waveform Ground-Penetrating Radar Modeling and Inversion The Opportunity

The Environmental and Cold Regions Geophysics Research Group, Department of Geophysics, Colorado School of Mines, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on 3D full-waveform modeling and inversion of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data as part of US Department of Energy and NASA funded research. Projects will include modeling for GPR hardware optimization in infrastructure applications, full-waveform and multi-physics inversion, and field data acquisition of GPR data in an Arctic environment. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will involve both numerical and field acquisition developments as well as application of them to practical imaging problems. The position is available immediately for one year with a potential extension of two more years upon satisfactory progress.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD degree in geophysics, physics, electrical engineering, computational sciences, applied mathematics or related fields.

Experience in numerical methods, 3D numerical full-waveform modeling.

Experience with ground-penetrating radar data acquisition, processing and inversion.

Excellent communicational (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills for collaborative work.

Preferred Qualifications

Full-waveform inversion (applications and/or theoretical and technical developments).

Python and/or Matlab

Experience in high-performance computing

Experience with GPRMAX or any other similar 3D electromagnetic wave propagation solvers.

Pay Range

$50,000 - $63,000

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
