About the Africana Studies Program
Africana Studies at Drexel University offers an interdisciplinary examination of the black experience in the Americas, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. The program also explores equity issues and stresses service learning in a wide variety of community-based organizations. Africana Studies offers valuable training of special interest to those considering admission to graduate and professional schools or careers in education, journalism, law, business management, city planning, international relations, politics, psychology, publishing, and social work.
Under our program, students acquire critical, interdisciplinary research skills as well as invaluable experience working on-site in a variety of non-profit and for-profit agencies. Whether majoring in computer science, engineering, humanities or social sciences, our courses offer students a broad liberal arts perspective that complements the specialized knowledge of traditional area studies. Perhaps most important, Africana Studies helps Drexel University students meet the challenges of an increasingly diverse and sophisticated global arena.
