Job Summary:

The Director, Strategic Initiatives is a critical member of the Office of Strategic Consulting leadership team and works closely with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (VCFA) and other campus executives on complex, high-impact, enterprise-wide projects. The director is charged with ensuring project delivery by staffing projects in the VCFA strategic portfolio with project management and with advancing the use of formal project management tools and techniques within the university. The Director will be accountable for fostering collaborative partnerships among senior leadership, project sponsors, project directors, and Strategic Consulting project managers and coordinators. The director is expected to provide guidance and recommendations to the VCFA regarding their project portfolio and to oversee the continued development and application of a project prioritization process.

This position reports to and works in close collaboration with the Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives & Director, Office of Strategic Consulting, developing the overall vision for the office and ensuring continuous alignment with campus strategic priorities. The Director, Strategic Initiatives, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project management team, including setting priorities, developing and implementing new or revised processes and procedures, and ensuring continued engagement in a remote environment. The position serves as a key advisor and thinking partner to the Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives.

The Director, Strategic Initiatives, supervises a growing team that includes 8 project managers, 3 project coordinators, a business analyst, and an administrative assistant.

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Emphasis in business/management, public administration, or project management preferred.

Master's Degree

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

- 10 years of experience in a non-profit, mission-driven environment. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in government or higher education.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience providing strategic direction and oversight as a project manager, program manager, administrative director, or similar role.
- 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Superior communication, organizational, and leadership skills, as demonstrated through project planning, collaboration, and delivery across an organization resulting in satisfied stakeholders and sponsors.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as evidenced by success working with and leveraging the talents of diverse project teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and build rapport with diverse stakeholders (internal and external) at all levels of the organization.
- Experience designing and implementing a project/portfolio prioritization process in conjunction with stakeholders and influencers.

Additional Information:

This position reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives & Director, Office of Strategic Consulting.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.
