This position is a full-time non-tenure-track appointment as a postdoctoral researcher associated with the Muchhala lab in the Department of Biology (College of Arts and Sciences) at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Tasks to be performed include research on the relative roles of pollinator-mediated reproductive isolation and gametic isolation (post-pollination yet prezygotic) in the diversification of the Neotropical plant genusBurmeistera(Campanulaceae). There will be fieldwork, labwork, and computational components to this research, and the candidate will be expected to publish results.
This position requires the holder to have a Ph.D. degree in Biology (or an appropriate subfield, for example ecology, evolution, systematics, or botany) and a strong publication track record. Additional desirable qualities include fieldwork experience in Latin American countries, experience in molecular systematics and bioinformatics, fluency in Spanish, and an interest in plant speciation and/or pollination biology. The candidate will also be encouraged to carry out his or her own research projects related to work done in the Muchhala Lab.
The holder of this position will be provided with office space, lab space, a full-time salary commensurate with current postdoctoral funding rates, and additional funding to cover research costs and to be able to attend one scientific conference per year. He or she will report to Dr. Nathan Muchhala, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology. The position will be funded with a NSF Standard Grant (award ID: 1754802), and will be guaranteed for one year with the possibility of renewal up to two years given satisfactory progress. Dr. Muchhala will evaluate progress based on research productivity.
