Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Department of Economics and Finance has an opening for a Lecturer of Finance beginning in August 2022. This position is expected to teach mostly undergraduate classes in finance and may have the opportunity to teach graduate classes as part of the business school’s growing online MBA program, MSF program, or the school’s face-to-face International MBA program but graduate teaching is dependent upon qualifications and candidate interest.
This faculty position is expected to contribute to the life of the school and department primarily through teaching and student engagement. We seek to add a faculty member who can bring professional experience into the classroom.
In addition, the position includes service responsibilities within and beyond the department including committee service as appropriate. The position is non-tenure track but considered a permanent position. Some research may be required to maintain academic qualifications and all faculty are encouraged to participate in research projects as appropriate.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Candidates can meet the minimum qualifications in one of two ways:
  • A related Master’s degree with 18 hours of finance related graduate courses in combination with significant work experience in finance
  • Master’s degree in a related discipline with a CFA certification
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Preferred qualifications include:
  • CFA designation
  • PhD in Finance, Economics, or related discipline
  • Significant work experience in finance

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Economics and Finance at UNCW contributes four concentrations (finance, economics, real estate, and fintech) to the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as well as housing the Bachelor of Arts in Economics Degree and the Master of Science in Finance. In addition, the department actively supports the Master of Business Administration program as well as the International MBA program, a joint program with international partner schools. The Department actively encourages faculty and student engagement through student clubs in addition to other programs such as Fed Challenge, CFA Challenge, the student managed investment fund, and honors research projects. The department also prides itself on an improving research portfolio and collaborative work within the department.
