A part-time laboratory Technician assistant position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Dennis Ohman in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. Daily maintenance of the research laboratory and its equipment are essential elements of this position. The successful candidate will also participate in a federally grant-funded project studying the bacterial pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa to study therapeutics that could prevent the production of bacterial exopolysccharide (capsule) to enhance immune efficiency in eliminating the pathogen. Position Responsibilities:
Maintenance of lab equipment
Assist with ordering
Maintaining data on supplies in the lab
Ensure lab is up to date on safety requirements
Assist as needed in preparing items for research experiments
$20/hr, 29 hours/week, restricted position
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a B.S. degree or equivalent with a background in biology, bacteriology, biochemistry and/or bacterial pathogenesis. Candidates are expected to be motivated for career development, committed to high-quality research, and eventually able to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with laboratory science in biology, microbiology, chemistry or related fields.
Good oral communication skills would be a plus.
