The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Anthropology Department invites applications for The Anthropology of Race and Racism, Assistant Professor-in-Residence, College of Liberal Arts [R0127885]

ROLE OF THE POSITION

This position is a full-time, permanent (i.e., annually renewable) position. The ideal applicant will possess a commitment to teaching and service.  Job responsibilities include teaching a mixture of four in-person and online classes each semester.  Candidates should be prepared to teach existing courses, such as Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (ANTH 101), Magic, Religion and Witchcraft (ANTH 420), Ethnographic Field Methods (ANTH 438), and The Freshman Experience (COLA 100). Also, the candidate should be prepared to teach a course of their own design on race and racism.  Other teaching responsibilities include mentorship, attending teaching workshops, and developing new courses.

The candidate is expected to serve on committees at a department, college and university level, as well as mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will be able to teach graduate seminars and serve on graduate dissertation committees.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph.D. from a regionally accredited college or university in Anthropology or related field. Must have conducted research in the Americas, and have proven expertise in ethnographic research methods as well as in teaching. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment. 

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions.
