Job Description
Montgomery College, Germantown, Rockville and Silver Spring/Takoma Park Campuses have immediate openings for FT Lead Grounds Maintenance Workers in their Facilities Departments. The work schedule is 5 days and 40 hours per week. The hours are 6:00am to 2:30pm. This is a Bargaining, Non-Exempt, grade 17 position. These are designated as Essential positions. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Duties include but are not limited to:
Leads and gives out daily assignments, checks on work, and also does the work of a Grounds Maintenance Worker and oversees staff when the Grounds Supervisor is not present.
Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.

- Delivers job assignments to Grounds Crew and checks for completion.
- Walks the campus daily and checks on the Grounds crew on a daily basis to make sure the work is up to college standards.
- Maintains campus grounds. Cleans parking lots, and removes trash from grounds along with recycling and bulk trash item, graffiti removal, dead animal removal as needed.
- Performs mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, weeding and pruning, planting of shrubs and flowers, mulching, watering, seeding, and fertilizing as needed.
- Trains Grounds crew on equipment use and performs maintenance as needed.
- Checks parts stock, grounds materials, chemicals, and reports to the supervisor on what is needed.
- Performs daily maintenance and fixing of small equipment, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
- Reports problems and parts needed to the supervisor. He also performs oiling, greasing and sharpening of tools and repairs on equipment.
- Reports to work during any winter weather event or any other seasonal weather event as needed.
- Removes debris. Removes snow and ice, and keeps the storm and roof drains clear during inclement weather conditions.
- Maintains and repairs Parking lot and repairs and replaces street signs.
- Processes work orders in writing and through the TMA program on IPads and assists other skilled trades as needed.
- Reports to supervisor on daily basis on the operations and needs of the Grounds Crew.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship
- High school diploma or GED or the equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Three years of hands-on experience in a lead position or as a crew foreman or front line supervisor in commercial professional landscape or grounds maintenance, including knowledge and application of operation and maintenance of lawn equipment, planting and maintenance of plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
- Experience operating snow removal equipment such as tractors and trucks with blades.
- Valid driver’s license required and evidence of a good driving record.

equivalency for international degrees.
