The center for creativity at Drexel University, Westphal College of Media Arts & Design trains the next generation of scholars, thinkers, makers, creative managers, doers in media, entertainment, design, and the visual and performing arts. About the Department

Drexel University’s BS in Design & Merchandising is composed of a rigorous 4-year curriculum requiring academic and co-operative educational experiences. The Design & Merchandising (D&M) major integrates visual design, merchandising, and business insight for the fashion lifestyle industries. The Bachelor of Science degree educates students to conceptualize, plan, develop, market, and measure the opportunity for products and services for consumers through physical stores, online channels, televised content, and interactive media. Students develop thorough knowledge of how products come to life through sustainable textiles, design, and production, and strategize the optimal assortment, inventory, and pricing for business goals. The multidisciplinary curriculum, based on both theory and practice, is delivered through immersive, experiential learning. Graduates work across the fashion lifestyle industries engaged in creative strategies, dynamic merchandise assortments, and new product lines for global consumer markets.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced colleague who has deep knowledge of the design and merchandising curriculum development and implementation and can support the implementation of our strategic vision for the D&M Program. The faculty member should be capable of teaching a broad range of courses across the curriculum, from the foundation to senior problem, but also have the expertise in digital marketing in the business of fashion from analytics, ecommerce, social media and immersive media. This faculty opportunity is ideal for an accomplished professional or entrepreneur who possesses a command of the discipline and a vision for the future.

Essential Functions
  • Teaching responsibilities will include teaching and coordinating 15 credits assigned by the Program Director to meet program needs from foundation to senior problem courses with expertise in digital marketing in the business of fashion from analytics, ecommerce, social media and immersive media.
  • Service responsibilities include cultivating and fostering partnerships in the fashion industry, including our network of alumni who can be called upon as resources for course and curriculum development, guest speakers, internships, and placement opportunities for students. A specific project will be determined prior to the start of this academic position and will include a plan, goals and metrics of the results.
  • Advising students and participation in the ongoing assessment of existing curriculum.
  • Ability to teach in multi-channel modes (in the classroom, online and hybrid).
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 5 years in a senior level position in the fashion industry with strong industry connections with a willingness to share industry contacts and opportunities to help achieve program initiatives.
  • Candidates must hold at least one degree in a relevant discipline with a demonstrated knowledge of fashion business concepts including buying, marketing, multi-channel merchandising, licensing/branding, design and product development.
  • Candidates should possess a knowledge of and appreciation for design and see the potential for design beyond the artifact. Interest in larger systems, patterns and behaviors that affect the discipline and create change is essential.
  • We seek a forward-thinking individual whose vision includes future based interests and who has a comprehensive understanding of the impact of the fashion lifestyle industry on the people and the planet.
Preferred Qualification
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development experience.
  • Candidates should be immersed in AI, virtual reality, and/or new and innovative technologies in retailing and the supply chain.
