Description
Pulmonary-Critical Care Medicine Programs
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) and
University of Washington (UW) are recruiting a full-time Assistant
or Associate Professor on the Clinician/Scholar pathway in the
Pulmonary-Critical Care Medicine Section of the Clinical Research
Division and a joint appointment as a full-time faculty member as
an Assistant or Associate Professor (without tenure due to funding)
on the Clinician/Scholar pathway in the Division of Pulmonary,
Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine, UW.
Salary and academic appointment will be commensurate with
experience, qualifications, and academic rank. This position would
have an annual service period of 12 months [July 1–June 30]. The
primary appointment will be in the Clinical Research Division of
Fred Hutch.
The selected individual for the advertised position is expected to
contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care
and developing excellence in clinical research in pulmonary
complications of cancer, pulmonary complications of stem cell
transplantation, and/or the early detection and prevention of lung
cancer. The position will have the opportunity for clinical and
translational research in the field of lung cancer early detection
and prevention, smoking cessation interventions, and health care
disparities. The successful candidate will have clinical
responsibilities on inpatient (Heme/Onc ICU) and outpatient
services including the pulmonary consult service as well as the
Lung Cancer Early Detection and Prevention Clinic at the Seattle
Cancer Care Alliance. Fred Hutch and University of Washington
faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching
responsibilities will involve oversight of advanced practice
providers and fellows during inpatient and outpatient rotations,
and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures
to providers and the general medical community.
The Fred Hutch, home of three Nobel laureates, is an independent,
nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and
advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other
potentially fatal diseases. Recognized internationally for its
pioneering work in bone-marrow transplantation and immunotherapy,
Fred Hutch and the UW provide a unique environment for conducting
translational research and clinical care. The Fred Hutch, in
collaboration with its clinical and research partners, the
University of Washington and Seattle Children’s, is a National
Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer
center.
At Fred Hutch, we believe that the innovation, collaboration, and
rigor that result from diversity and inclusion are critical to our
mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases. We seek
employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the
world and solving problems. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an
antiracist organization. We are committed to ensuring that all
candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, antiracism, and
inclusion.
Anticipated start date: July 1, 2022
NOTE: This position will require work
to be performed on-site at a Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA)
facility. SCCA requires all individuals, including University of
Washington faculty clinicians, working at an SCCA facility to be
fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unlike UW’s vaccination policy,
the SCCA policy does not provide for religious or medical
exemptions. As such, a UW offer associated with this recruitment is
contingent upon, among other things, the preferred candidate
demonstrating that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no
later than the commencement of their appointment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a record of and primary interest in lung cancer early detection and prevention as well as an active clinical research interest, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, in the application of detection and prevention to the treatment of human disease.
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and Board Eligibility or Certification in both Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (or foreign equivalent). In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Applicants need to be eligible for unrestricted licensure in the state of Washington and a faculty appointment at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Application Instructions
Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a concise statement of career goals including a description of clinical research goals and a diversity statement describing your past contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion and your future plans for continuing these efforts (two pages or less), and a list of five (5) references, along with a letter of application addressed to: Dr. McGarry Houghton.
