Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Director for Residential Experience and Academic Programs! Residence Life at the University of Colorado Boulder focuses on student success through implementing innovative programs and services that promote co-curricular engagement. This position is responsible for the overall management of an undergraduate residence hall(s) of up to 2000 students in a large housing operation. The main responsibilities of this position include the facilitation of student leadership, human resource management, planning strategically, leadership, assessment, operations, administration, fiscal management, and crisis response. In addition this position supports the implementation of our residential curriculum as well as encourages partnerships with our Residential Academic Programs (RAPs) and Living-Learning Communities (LLCs). The Assistant Director supervises 3-5 Hall directors, and indirectly supervises 50+ student staff members.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Human Resource Management
  • Directly supervise 3-5 hall directors, and indirectly supervise 50+ student staff members in multiple capacities.
  • Assist the implementation of processes to recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate highly skilled, student affairs focused staff at all position levels of Residence Life.
  • Conduct intentional performance reviews for professional staff and maintain ongoing accountability focused on learning.
  • Assist professional staff to build inclusive and caring relationships with student staff and students within the residential community.
  • Lead the training and development for all professional staff positions.
  • Ensure all federal, state, university, and departmental hiring processes are followed.
  • Ensure university training requirements for all residence life staff are met.
Co-Curricular and Student Leadership
  • Assist in programs that accelerate the academic, interpersonal/ behavioral, and leadership skills for all residential students at the university.
  • Support with the development, articulation, and implementation of a student development model for the residence halls.
  • Advocate student concerns to the university and community populations .
Planning Strategically
  • Provide outstanding leadership for all planning strategically, implementation, and assessment, all assigned initiatives, and all committee work in Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Support the development and furthering of the organizational philosophy, mission, and programs within Residence Life.
  • Assist the development, implementation, and interpretation of benchmarking and community surveys for Residence Life.
  • Assist in the development and provide leadership for completion of residence life strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Participate in vision creation, resources, and strategic implementation in the Residence Life planning process.
  • Act as representative of Residence Life, and student affairs on campus.
External Relations
  • Provide excellent support and leadership to all external partners through service minded attention to the broader housing, student affairs, and university missions.
  • Serve and lead student affairs committees as needed.
  • Work with parents regarding concerns for students in the halls.
  • Assist with conference services.
  • Assist in campus retention and enrollment management efforts.
Operations & Administration
  • Guide residence life initiatives to create a seamless residential environment that exceeds student needs and expectations.
  • Chair departmental committees and represent the department to the university and Boulder community committees as assigned.
  • Assist with facility concerns in residence halls.
  • Serve as a residence life liaison to maintenance, environmental services, dining services, reservations, and finance units.
Emergency Response
  • Direct and evaluate all emergency and crisis responses.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation for 9,000+ residents.
  • Provide crisis management assistance and follow up.
  • Uphold departmental and university crisis response policies and procedures.
Fiscal Resource Management
  • Administrate all fiscal processes with maximum integrity and timeliness.
  • Follow all federal, state, university and departmental budget procedures.
  • Assist in managing the residence life budgets.
  • Allocate budget dollars to support pivotal initiatives.

What We Can Offer
  • The salary for this position is $60,000- $65,000 annually.

What We Require
  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field. (Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.)
  • Three years of progressive student affairs/academic experience upon hire. Experience must also demonstrate responsible organizational authority in a residence life/housing program.
  • Experience supervising professional and/or paraprofessional staff.
What You Will Need
  • Operational knowledge of technology, computer programs, and budget development.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience leading a training and development program.
  • Experience with staff recruitment and selection.
  • Experience partnering closely with academic affairs and university faculty members in an academically rich residential environment, preferably a residential college or residential curriculum model.
  • Experience with a first year student experience residential program.
  • Experience with developing learning outcomes and assessment strategies.
  • Proven dedication to social justice and inclusion in a residential setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with student conduct, crisis intervention and emergency response.
