The Department of Journalism of the Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts at Rowan University welcomes applications for a full-time (10-month) Lecturer, to join the department September 1, 2022.

The successful candidate will teach in and coordinate our rapidly expanding Esports Concentration of the College’s Sports Communication and Media ( Sports CaM ) Program. This interdisciplinary major brings together faculty from four departments in the College: Communication Studies; Journalism; Public Relations & Advertising; and Radio, Television & Film.

The successful candidate will teach courses in the Esports Concentration, including Introduction to Esports, Esports Coverage & Media, as well as Sports CaM’s Senior Seminar. There is also room for the candidate to develop courses in their areas of expertise. An ideal candidate will also leverage their connections in esports and/or traditional sports media to bring career-oriented curricular and professional opportunities to students in the concentration and major.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to work with the Sports CaM Coordinator to oversee the Esports Concentration and the Esports Industry & Entertainment Experience Certificate. Ideally, they will also assist the Director of the Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact with the Sports CaM internship program by helping to identify and match students with opportunities to secure valuable experiences outside of the classroom.

Candidates with national or major market industry experience in esports and/or traditional sports media are strongly encouraged to apply. So too are candidates with teaching and research experience in esports and sports media, as well as esports identity and culture (such as race, gender, class, LGBTQIA+ identities, and/or disability rights).

As a department with a strong history of teaching excellence, we seek a colleague who values and excels in teaching. This lecturer position also offers the opportunity for scholarly research and publication as well as internal and external funding. In addition, the successful candidate will be asked to contribute to the department, college, and university through service including, but not limited to, mentoring of students, curriculum development, and program assessment. There is likewise an expectation for service to the wider professional community.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have master’s degree or Ph.D. with experience teaching at the collegiate level. Candidates with Ph.D. in related disciplines and/or ABD candidates with dissertation nearing completion will also be considered. The terminal degree is required at the time of appointment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis.
