Position Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to verify, process, inspect, and deliver items received on the loading dock as well as maintain all proper documentation associated with items received. Package and ship items being sent out with appropriate documentation to via various shipping methods. Furthermore, it is the duty of this job to insure that the loading dock is kept clean, organized and that a safe work environment is maintained

Essential Functions:

40% Deliver incoming goods to departments and divisions. Maintain loading dock, keeping a safe and clean work environment.

5% Assist in keeping inventory records of college property, including their locations, conditions, and department responsible for the property.

40% Receive, unpack, inspect for damage, and examine goods received to establish and verify shipment against bills of lading, invoices, and purchase orders.

5% Drive motor vehicles to pick up supplies and other items as well as deliver parcels requiring special handling.

5% Maintain proper documentation of all items received as well as shipped out.

5% Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

· High School Diploma/GED

· One year shipping and receiving experience is preferred.

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience

Skills/Abilities: Understanding of and interest in shipping/receiving in higher education. Ability to communicate effectively to students, faculty, staff and the public. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks. Must be able to use a personal computer. A valid TN driver's license and the ability to drive a 20ft trailer, and operate hydraulic machinery effectively and efficiently.

Key Result Areas: The expected outcomes to this position are as follows: Items are delivered to correct locations and departments. All records are accurately maintained.

Scope of Responsibility: Organizational skills and the ability to learn the computer skills for processing orders are needed for this position. No, proficiency in a second language is not needed.

Nature of Contacts: This position requires interactions with each department on and off campus. Especially accounting and purchasing. The nature of these contacts is to ensure items are delivered to correct department and all the proper documentation is completed. Furthermore, this position is required to interact with the students when delivering items as well as interact with people picking up surplus.

Physical Demands: This position requires constant lifting and stacking of boxes weighing up to 55 pounds. Once the boxes are placed on a cart, they must then be pushed another 200 yards to be delivered in other buildings, while safely working around students and faculty in the hallways with a cart loaded with 10-15 boxes. This is not only physically demanding, requires thinking through the route to take based on traffic and location. Yes, when working on the loading dock trucks are not always in the line of vision and often times one only hears the truck. Yes, The job requires looking at sometimes very small numbers (serial numbers). Yes, often time items are order in different colors and it is imperative to differentiate between items to insure correctness based on the purchase order

Pay Rate: $26,500 - $31,220/per year. Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required. To be considered in determining pay, all related work experience must be listed on the application.
