Evening Access Services Specialist



Position Summary:

The University of Dayton School of Law invites applications for the position of Evening Access Services Specialist for Zimmerman Law Library, which provides services and resources to support the mission of the School of Law. The School of Law is located in Keller Hall, a spacious facility constructed for state-of-the-art technology on the University of Dayton’s beautiful residential campus. The Law School is a recognized innovator in legal education, with a welcoming atmosphere and a commitment to practical legal training. Ensures, under the direction of the Director of the Law Library and supervisory Public Services personnel, the successful delivery of information-resource access services to patrons of Zimmerman Law Library afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Primarily works Tuesday through Saturday, afternoons and evenings, although work times may vary with changes in Library operating hours for holidays and intersessions. Supervises, or assists in supervising, student employees, including providing training support. Staffs the access services desk and assists patrons with information resource needs. Assists with processing Library materials. Provides limited reference support evenings and Saturdays, and makes referrals to research support librarians. Provides limited technical assistance with printers/copiers and computers. Serves as primary contact to Public Safety evenings and Saturdays for facility and safety issues. Ensures protocols are followed and the facility is secure when closing the Law Library

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Experience with and commitment to working with socially and culturally diverse communities.
Basic computer skills (familiarity with word processing and Google applications)
Demonstrated flexibility and openness to learning new skills

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Supervisory experience or other work-related leadership
Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
Demonstrated vision and long-range strategic thinking
Some college coursework
Work experience at a library or an institution of higher learning
Some experience with internet research and online library catalogs
Knowledge of and sensitivity to Catholic and Marianist educational values

4:00 pm – 11:00 pm Tues-Thurs
1:00 pm – 9:00 pm Fri
10:00am – 6:00pm Sat
Work times may vary with changes in Law Library operating hours for holidays and intersessions.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2021 or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status.

The University will continue to monitor the state of the pandemic on campus and in the community as well as developments in federal and state requirements, and also will continue to regularly consult with public health officials and our medical panel. As has been the case throughout the pandemic, our protocols and requirements are subject to change depending on conditions on campus or in our community, and government requirements.
