Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY
The Columbus State Upward Bound (UB) program serves 70 high school students from Columbus City Schools. UB works with first-generation and/or income-eligible students to help them graduate and develop skills necessary for college enrollment and completion. The Advisor will collaborate with colleagues to provide various opportunities for participants to build academic proficiency and social/cultural competency. The Advisor will assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating program activities and events, and with recruitment and retention of program participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Student Advising, Program Support
Oversight of the after-school UB tutoring program. Provide academic advising for a caseload of participants throughout the academic year. Assist in developing, designing, and leading program components that result in positive academic outcomes for UB participants. Provide engaging, ongoing opportunities for UB participants to experience success through academic activities. Develop and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment to achieve positive results. Build strong, positive relationships with UB participants. Facilitate Saturday Session workshops. Provide time and group management while offering homework and tutoring assistance. Create and maintain discussions for program and participant improvement. Provide mentoring and transitional support to first-year college students participating in the UB summer BRIDGE component and attend class sessions with BRIDGE participants. Facilitate supplemental instruction and academic advising to ensure BRIDGE participants follow and understand course curriculum/assignments.

Customer Service Student Engagement & Advisement
Report to the site on time and prepared, as directed. Assist with needs of the UB Summer Enrichment Institute (SEI) for 9th-11th grade students. Model professional behavior with participants, parents, and staff. Handle disruptive behavior with respect. Follow guidelines, processes, and procedures. Report any issues to the UB Program Manager and/or TRIO Director.

Classroom & Community Support
Assist with snack/bus pass distribution. Chaperone during off-campus activities, participant sign-out, and clean-up of bus and classroom environments. Assist with off-campus and weekend activities and events when needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree with one (1) year of relevant work experience. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
