This is an open-rank, tenure-track faculty search. The University of Houston College of Optometry is seeking outstanding clinician-scientists to join the Clinical Sciences Department with interests and expertise that may include, but are not limited to, the following clinical practice and translational research priorities:
  • Pediatric visual disorders; sensory and perceptual disorders related to visual development; anomalies of binocular vision in children and adults
  • Visual rehabilitation and low vision services
  • Anterior segment disorders including dry eye and contact lenses
  • Ocular and systemic diseases affecting posterior segment of the eye
  • Treatment and prevention of refractive errors
  • Neurological and neurodegenerative diseases
  • Other conditions of public health importance
  • Applied data sciences, clinical informatics, and telehealth applications
  • Evidence-based clinical practice and clinical outcomes research related to disease mechanisms, diagnosis, management, and treatment efficacy
Competitive applicants will have terminal degrees (e.g. O.D., Ph.D.) that enable clinical practice and extramurally funded research that may include any stage of translational research, from benchtop exploration of disease mechanisms to public health policy. Candidates are expected to provide clinical education and patient care and must be eligible for optometric licensure in the state of Texas. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate leadership in teaching, clinical practice, service, and scholarship related to patient care, clinical outcomes, clinical education, or other areas of applied clinical science.

Qualifications :

The successful applicant must have an O.D. degree and should have a terminal research degree; Ph.D. is preferred. Applicants should have experience with clinical teaching, mentoring, and providing patient care.
