RISD Facilities is actively seeking a full-time HVAC Mechanic to join its team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HVAC professional to bring their skills and experience to RISD in service of our campus population and its facilities, all while working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

HVAC Mechanics at RISD perform skilled work in the inspection, testing, servicing and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and controls for heating, air conditioning, and related equipment. They also perform a wide variety general maintenance throughout the campus, with significant focus on HVAC related issues, as directed.

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement between Rhode Island School of Design and the Rhode Island School of Design Facilities Trades Association.

Essential Functions
  • Operates, repairs, maintains, replaces, installs, adjusts, and inspects all building mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and safety systems to optimize performance and maintain continuous delivery of services.

  • Performs all necessary preventative maintenance on all building systems as scheduled. Generates and updates work orders via College’s work order computer system.

  • Coordinates and facilitates delivery and contractor work. Oversees and inspects all maintenance work performed on campus by any outside contractors.

  • Performs other installations and repairs as required, including general maintenance throughout the campus.

  • Drive RISD vehicle to transport materials and staff to the job site(s), possibly outside normal business hours.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college or trade school experience preferred.

  • 3-5 years of general maintenance and/or trades experience.

  • Working knowledge of pneumatic and electrical controls related to HVAC and refrigeration.

  • Must have a broad and in-depth knowledge of electrical, HVAC, inside and outside maintenance, and HVAC controls.

  • Basic computer skills required, including the use of software programs such as Word, Excel, Workday, TMA systems or equivalent and associated trade specific software, as well as the willingness and ability to learn and use new technologies and continue job-related training.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred but not required skills and experience:
  • Additional trades building licensure

Work Schedule

Full time. 40 hours per week, on-call, occasionally needed to work evenings and/or weekends. The person holding this position must be available for a 24-hour emergency call back. This position is considered essential and emergency personnel and is required to report to work regardless of conditions. Overtime required.
